The comprehensive school system reforms of 1979 saw the Technical School undergo another transformation. It was renamed Thorncliffe School and became part of a wider educational network.

Legacy Lives On

While the original Technical School building no longer serves its original purpose, it hasn’t faded away completely. Today, the building has been transformed into the Nan Tait Centre, its large windows offering a glimpse of the vibrant community activities within. Interestingly, the Nan Tait Centre now houses the Barrow Register Office, which is where you can register births, deaths, marriages, and civil partnerships in Barrow-in-Furness.
